Particle Analysis in the Chemical Sector

An example of Chemistry in everyday life is Paint, Particle Analysis plays a huge part in manufacturing paint. Commonly used extenders include clay, silica and silicates, diatomaceous silica, calcium carbonate, talc, and zinc oxide. The binder provides adhesion, integrity, and toughness to the dry paint film by binding the pigment together.

Why is Particle Characterisation important in this sector?

To understand the potential for dissolution, the rate and time the reaction will take, the stability of, and hence the consistency of, the process or desired product, the surface charge and area of the particles which affect the resultant or desired, texture, colour, density and appearance, to name but a few.
